Psalm Reflection: The Baptism of the Lord (Cycle C)

“The Lord will bless his people with peace.” - Psalm 29

Do you want more peace in your life? It seems like a question with a universal answer: of course we all want more peace in our lives, especially with levels of anxiety, stress and depression continuing to rise. The difficult question is: HOW do we get more peace in our lives? The answer is simple: tell me what your prayer life looks like and I will tell you how much peace you have. When we are spending time each day intentionally connecting with God, the rest of our day falls into perspective. Things we might be hyper-focused on some days can turn into opportunities or will simply not be as big of a deal to us because we understand what is most important in life and who we can turn to in the difficult moments. Prayer can look a lot of different ways, and sometimes we can develop a prayer life that is more of a routine and less of a relationship. This week, spend time each day talking to Jesus like He is sitting on your couch, in the passenger seat, or with you in a coffee shop. First, spend time in praise and gratitude, thanking Him for all He has given you. Secondly, examine your day and determine what you need to ask forgiveness for. Lastly, bring your needs, concerns and hopes to Him in prayer and trust that He does answer every prayer (sometimes the answer will simply be “no”). Spend time in authentic prayer every day this week and I guarantee you begin to experience an influx of peace in your daily life. We are praying for you this week.

See you in the Eucharist!
