Psalm Reflection: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)

“Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.” - Psalm 96

When I say the word “prophet,” what comes to mind? For me, I often think of an Old Testament character, male, bearded, doing and saying crazy things in the name of the Lord, whether people care to listen or not. I think that is what most of us envision: a character or person that no longer exists. The truth is, prophets still exist today. In fact, if you are baptized in the Catholic Church, you were baptized as a priest, prophet and king, meaning that YOU are meant to be the representative of Christ and His Church to the world (priest), YOU are called to speak truth in the name of Jesus (prophet), and to remember that YOU are the son or daughter of the King of Kings and to treat all who you meet in the same way (king). How long have you been a Christian? And in that time, how many people have you gone out of your way to be a prophet and speak the truth of God’s love to? I’m not talking about signing up for a talk or a testimony at a Church event, but completely of your own accord when no one else is watching; who among the strangers, friends and family in your life have you actively tried to proclaim God’s love to? I am convicted by this question daily and I hope it challenges you this week to think about what God has done in your life, how your life is better because of your relationship with Jesus Christ, and to share that with someone in your life who needs to hear it. Pray for the Spirit to be with you and guide your words, and I guarantee you that God will show up in ways you did not expect. We are praying for you this week!

See you in the Eucharist!
