Psalm Reflection: Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)
“Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.” - Psalm 19
What fuels your day? What gets you inspired and uplifts you? Caffeine? Exercise? A healthy breakfast? A good conversation? What about Scripture? I doubt the that Bible would be our first answer, but according to the Psalm for this Sunday, it should be. The word “spirit” in scripture comes from the word meaning “breath.” The word of God should breathe life into us every day. How do you allow the word of God to fuel your life? Do you spend time in the Word every day? Too often we make excuses about not having enough time, or not knowing enough about the Bible, and we give up before we even get started. We don’t need more time, we need to rearrange our priorities. We don’t need to know what everything in the Bible means, we simply need to let it give meaning to us. This week, look up the readings for each day and pick one to read through slowly and prayerfully. Read it once to see what is being said. Read it a second time to see if a word or phrase stands out for any reasons. Read it again and ask God what He is trying to say to you. Read it one more time and listen, reflect or journal about the passage. This is called Lectio Divina, look it up and try to incorporate it more into your daily life. Let the words of Scripture breathe life into you this week. We are praying for you.
See you in the Eucharist.
