Psalm Reflection: Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)
“In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord.” - Psalm 138
Catalina Rivas, a woman believed by some to be a modern mystic, reported that when she was at Mass, she would see every person’s guardian angel file down the aisle (as we do at communion) during the preparation of gifts, but many of them went to the altar appearing sad because they had nothing to offer. Do you go to Mass or into moments of prayer expecting to get something out of them? This past weekend, we saw the Super Bowl bring millions of fans together to give their time and energy for a team they do not belong to, and to cheer for players they do not know. We should be even more excited when we approach our God because we are on His team, we are in His family, we are His beloved sons and daughters and we are members of the Body of Christ. Not only that, God knows us and invites us into relationship with Him to actually know Him in return. Do you get more excited about concerts, movies, sports or experiences than you do about Jesus, prayer or Mass? If so, I want to encourage you to think about reprioritizing Him in your life and reenergizing your faith life. This week, make only prayers of praise and thanksgiving to God; do not ask Him for anything, but rather, rely on others to pray for your intentions. We are praying for you this week.
See you in the Eucharist!
