Psalm Reflection: Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle B)

“God rains manna upon them for food; grain from heaven he gave them.” - Psalm 78:24

Did we just pick this verse because the word “manna” is in it? Probably.

We chose the name MANNA, not only because it is a blend of our names (Matt & Jenna), but because of what it signifies. The manna in Exodus came from God in the midst of the people wandering in desert; it gave nourishment, and it pointed to the Eucharist. This ministry was placed on our hearts as a calling from God, and it has been joyful but it has also been challenging. At times we feel like God must have picked the wrong people. And yet, God is using us because we simply said “yes.” What is God asking you to do that you are afraid to say yes to? What is holding you back?

Our world today is very much like a spiritual desert. Religion is mocked, relegated to an antiquated, medieval practice. We hope that in the midst of a very secular culture, this podcast continues to encourage you to live out your faith boldly with joy. We pray that it offers you spiritual nourishment when it is difficult to find it elsewhere. What else is God trying to give you in the desert of daily life? What is distracting you from being open and ready to receive it?

Lastly, everything we do points to the Eucharist. Jesus offers His whole self to us every day, what are you offering Him in return? The Hebrew people grumbled and moaned in the desert. Will you be like them, or will you be grateful for the nourishment God offers? “Eucharist” means thanksgiving, so let us rejoice and thank God for providing in all circumstances, for nourishing us and for giving Himself to us completely. We are praying for you.

See you in the Eucharist!

MANNA is a ministry creating blogs and podcasts to encourage and inspire others to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and live out their Catholic faith.
