Psalm Reflection: The Third Sunday of Easter (Cycle B)
“Why do you love what is worthless and chase after lies? Selah.” -Psalm 4:3
How much of your day is filled with noise? Traffic, conversations, music, Netflix, video games, and so much more are constantly filling our lives and our time, and although some of these are good things in moderation, we can chase after them as if they are our source of happiness and comfort. The same can be true of our relationships; in a time when you can have thousands of “friends” online, you can still feel like the loneliest person in the world. The reasons we feel this way are twofold: we don’t know how to be still, and we are looking for our ultimate satisfaction is people or things other than God. Exodus 14:14 says, “the Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” The word Selah in the Psalms is believed to be a designation to the musician to take a rest. How are you spending time unplugged and in intentional, restful silence to be with God? If you tell me how much silent time you have every day, I can probably tell you how much peace you have; the two go hand in hand. This week, in the midst of this Easter season, take some time to sit and simply be with the One who died for you, the One who rose for you. Clear you head and focus on an image you have of God and repeat a name you use for Him in prayer as a way to stay focused, and I guarantee you will encounter Him.
See you in the Eucharist!
