Psalm Reflection: Pentecost Sunday

Psalm Reflection: Pentecost Sunday

“Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.” - Psalm 104

How are you doing?

“Busy.”

We wear this response like a badge of honor in our culture; the busier you are, the more successful you seem. Is that really the best way to live? Running ourselves into the ground to feel like we are getting ahead? Does that seem like we are being the best versions of ourselves? That seems to me to be a sure-fire way to burn out. And yet, most people feel like this a majority of the time: constantly overwhelmed and playing catch up with life, feeling tired every day, and probably not doing the things that they really want to be doing. Pentecost is a reminder of the renewal that life in the Spirit offers us: a life lived for more than tasks and career goals, but a life lived with true joy and purpose. Life in the Spirit is wild, adventurous, spontaneous, joyful and filled with purpose. Do you feel that way every day? Do you desire that kind of renewal in your life? Pentecost is the perfect opportunity to invite the Holy Spirit into your life in a new, bold and transformational way. Ask the Holy Spirit to breathe new life into your heart this week, simply by spending some quiet time in prayer, taking some deep breaths and praying “Come, Holy Spirit, thoughtfully, intentionally, and out loud ten times. See the difference it makes. We are praying for you this week.

See you in the Eucharist.
