Psalm Reflection: Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)
“Lord, it is good to give thanks to you.” - Psalm 92
When you go to the ATM, do you say thank you when the ATM gives you money? Probably not, it would be kind of ridiculous. We expect that the ATM is going to give us what we ask for, and so we don’t say anything when it does. On the rare occasion it doesn’t give us what we ask for it becomes a majorly frustrating inconvenience. We treat God like an ATM sometimes. We expect Him to give us good things, so when He does we forget to thank Him. But when we have our heart set on something and God doesn’t give it to us we get frustrated and even angry at God. We forget how much He has already given us. Not a single thing belongs to us in this world but our sin, and yet Jesus came to save us from that too. We owe Him everything. This week, spend some time thanking God for the things you use or consume every day: your bed, your home, your clothing, your food, your running water, your family, your friendships, where you live, the ability to go to school or have a job, whatever money you have, and the fact that you are alive and breathing at all. We are truly blessed. We are praying for you this week!
See you in the Eucharist!
