Psalm Reflection: Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)
“The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.” - Psalm 98
I love riddles and I love close-up magic. I know those things are a bit obscure and seemingly unrelated, but both of them are problems to be solved, and I love solving problems. I love successfully deciphering the answer to a riddle or the trick behind an illusion. Yet, even though all the information I need is right in front of me, I cannot always see it clearly. And it can be INCREDIBLY frustrating when I cannot see it. I will lay awake at night trying to figure it out, committed to do so with no help whatsoever. To other people, that probably seems really silly: why wouldn’t I just google the answer and move on?
Well, when it comes to God it’s not that easy. He has already revealed to us everything we need, but He leaves just enough mystery for us to still need to trust Him. We can look at our faith from every which way, but in the end it still requires faith for us to follow Him. It will never be a sure thing; we always come to God knowing that we cannot fully understand or grasp everything about Him. It takes trust, surrender and humility to recognize that no matter how long we lay awake at night, we cannot pin God down into an “answer.” We search for answers because we want to be in control.
Maybe you have doubts that God knows what He is doing. Maybe you feel like He has overlooked you or the things you want. Maybe you think He’s not there.
Do you beed a reminder that God knows you and is powerful enough to handle whatever you more going through? Take a second and go outside.
Look around.
Did you happen to notice... EVERYTHING?
We can think we need more evidence, but everything we need has already been revealed to us. The fingerprints of God are everywhere, we simply need to recognize them and let them serve as opportunities to turn to God all our all-powerful and all-knowing Father. Instead of trying to find our own answers, let us turn to the one who is THE answer: THE way, THE truth and THE life, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We already have all that we need. This week, spend some time outside recognizing all that God created and that if He could do that, He can handle whatever you choose to give Him.
We are praying for you this week!
See you in the Eucharist.
